Congratulations to Vango for winning the trivia contest for December 24th and receiving a copy of Audiosurf!
Previous trivia question:
What was the first stealth game to use light and sound as gameplay mechanics?
|Hiding in the shadows.|
Thief was released in 1998, and unlike other first person games at the time, it was about avoiding confrontation.
Lighting and sound played important roles in Thief. You would hide in the shadows to avoid being seen by guards. Guards would hear you and you could hear them. You could tell many things about your environment from sound, make noises to act as distractions, and sound was dynamic. Additionally, Thief had very complex AI that was unscripted and could detect visual and audio cues from the environment.
Thief has inspired many games, including the Splinter Cell and the Assassin's Creed series.
The third game in the Thief series is currently on sale on Steam for $9.99 (50% off). It's also part of the Square Complete Pack for $74.99.
Today's indie deals:
ProtoGalaxy is $2.49 (75% off).
RUSH is $1.69 (66% off).
The Mount & Blade games are 75% off. Mount & Blade is $4.99, Mount & Blade: Warband is $7.49, and a bundle containing both games is $9.99. We only recommend purchasing Warband because it contains the same content as Mount & Blade, plus multi-player and upgrades.
SimCity 4 Deluxe is $4.99 (75% off). This version includes the Rush Hour expansion.
The Doom Complete Pack is $8.74 (75% off). If you like first person shooters and you haven't played Doom, you should try it just to see where it all started. This isn't the best sale that Steam has ever had on Doom, however.
