PC Gaming is DEAD!: December 19th, 2010

Congratulations to Barney on winning the December 17th trivia contest, and receiving a copy of NyxQuest!

Yesterday's question:
What was the first real time strategy game to feature 3D units and terrain?

That's a big cliff.
Answer: Total Annihilation by Cavedog Entertainment.

Although some real time strategy games before Total Annihilation may have had obstacles like cliffs, their height wasn't used by the game's combat mechanics and they just acted like natural walls. Total Annihilation was the first to take things like elevation into account.

If you were a fan of Total Annihilation or think the game might interest you, take a look at the Supreme Commander games. They are the spiritual successor to Total Annihilation and were designed by the same person: Chris Taylor.
